The Promised Land team is made up of four lads from Limerick, Ireland. We all support Manchester United. Here’s a little bit about each of us:
Ross Cummins, 21
As a young lad, I probably entered the world of football rather late. I was nine before I realised the sheer brilliance of the beautiful game. I fell in love with Manchester United first, and football second. Six months after I officially became a supporter, United won the Treble and I’ve dedicated my life since to being part of the greatest club in the world.
My favourite player at present is, coincidentally the best player in the world, Wayne Rooney, and I’ve also got a little soft spot for a certain Jonathan Evans. Roy Keane is my favourite player of all time. My greatest moment as a United supporter was standing on the Stretford End when Paul Scholes put Barcelona to the sword in 2008. Winning our trophy back in 2007, landing number 18 in 2009 and being introduced to Federicho Macheda against Aston Villa as I watched from the same spot all follow closely behind.
I left school as a failure but have always kept my passion to write; English, for me, was the only thing that made school bearable. I’ve worked consistently in shops since I was 17, apart from a stint at BetFred when I lived in Manchester for a brief period in 2009. Away from football, my hobbies include drinking, smoking, fighting outside nightclubs, watching the movie Kick-Ass (and anything with Aaron Johnson in it) and going bald.
I don’t claim to be the greatest writer of my generation. I was created equal; I’m just more equal than others. I’m narcissistic, pessimistic and cynical. And I, unfortunately, generally live my life by this: If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well. But if you can’t do it well, then don’t bother doing it at all.

So as not to bore you with my life story, or depress you for that matter (*cough*Ross*cough*), I’ve decided instead to write a football related limerick to express how I feel about the beautiful game.
There once was a six foot four man,
A life long United fan,
Supported through wind, rain and shine,
He knows they’ll be fine,
If they stick to Sir Alex’s plan.
Favourite Match: Manchester United 4-3 Hull City, November 2008. One of the best moments of my life to finally make it to Old Trafford. What a game.
Favourite Moment: “And Solskjaer has won it!!”
Favourite Player of All Time: Peter Schmeichel
Favourite Current Player: Park Ji-Sung
Favourite Non-United Players: Darren Bent and Alvaro Recoba

Thomas O’Dowd, 22
It was 1992, the tender age of three I was. Yes I hadn’t a clue what football was, but that was the year I began to support Manchester United. An older kid told me to support them, so I did. That year they won the League Cup but little did I know they were just at the start of something incredibly special. Year after year I supported Manchester United and I’ll continue to do so until I die. As I grew older and wiser about football my love also ventured up to Glasgow, where I follow Celtic since the days of Van Hooijdonk and Di Canio.
My favourite players past and present are Wayne Rooney (love him) and Roy Keane and David Beckham. I also love Nemanja Vidic and Paul Scholes.
My greatest United moments have been winning the Champions League twice, embarrassingly crying the second time, Michael Owen’s winner against CITEH, finally beating Chelsea under Mourinho whilst singing the Mourinho chant (cheers, Fletch), beating Arsenal 6-1 in 2001 and, of course, John O’Shea nicking a last minute winner in front of the Scouser cunts. So many more great memories, but they’re just some of my personal favourites.
I’m currently studying Real Estate and Planning in Limerick Institute of Technology and just completed first year. Yeah I know we’re in a recession but it’ll end in a few years lads, so houses will be sought after. Reading or writing was never my favourite thing to do, but my passion for football inspired me to join Ross so I could let everyone know my opinions. Outside of football my hobbies include rugby and golf, the gym when I can afford it, playing the Xbox and getting drunk playing beer pong. I’m occasionally hiding somewhere in Ross’s apartment when the girlfriend doesn’t have me out shopping. I also enjoy a good cigar when the occasion’s right.
I’m a prick, very opinionated, controversial and sometimes quite stubborn if I think I’m right about something, but I always try to be fair. I’ll live and die by this saying: “Football isn’t a matter of life and death. It’s much more important than that.” -Bill Shankly.

As a young boy, my mother always knew I was special. She said I should play hurling, and I did, and loved it. I have to say my heart lies with the ‘small ball’, but I also have a passion for the football, and definitely not the egg-shaped ball.
I’ve supported United since 1996 when my aunt sent me a shirt from England with ‘Beckham 10’ on the back. 1996 was also the year Limerick lost the All-Ireland Final to Offaly, and I broke a window in disgust. I enjoy drinking, shmoking, fighting and the occasional long stroll on the beach. I have a dog and a cat who get along with each other (they’re the original odd couple).
I'm doing a trade in carpentry and have no job, so if you want something done, give me a shout.

Please don’t assume that just because we are four Manchester United supporters that this is a Manchester United website; it is not. This is a football website.
Yes, we are biased at times, but we aim to be as fair as possible as often as possible. Above all, we are honest and give our raw opinion. We don’t claim to be experts, and we’re certainly not always right. If you disagree with anything we say, we encourage you to make your feelings known. There’s no harm in debate.
After all, the one thing you need to know about us more than anything, our greatest attribute: we know that football is all about opinion.
